Adding to a growing list of schools named Music Demonstration Schools, by the Florida Department of Education; Lockmar Elementary makes number seven in Brevard County.
The named schools have quality comprehensive music instruction which is supported by the administration and community. The Music Demonstration Schools title runs from Fall 2011 through 2014.
Brevard Public Schools is leading the state in this program. We have 19 of the 21 Music Demonstration Schools across the state and the only 2 honorable mention sites.
“The fact that we are such leaders in this area proves the commitment our district continues to have for music education.” Superintendant Dr. Brian T. Binggeli said.
Indialantic Elementary was awarded the new honorable mention.
This program was implemented in 1988 in cooperation with the Florida Music Educators Association. Since 1988, more than 100 schools have been designated as Music Demonstration Schools and 40 have achieved an Honorable Mention.
