Palm Pay’s $4.9 million city hall annex is on budget, on time, and set to open in September.
Constructed with federal stimulus funds, the tree-story building is quickly going up in front of the current city hall. City employees are expected to be in the building by September 10th.
The land development, building divisions, growth management, and offices of the city attorney, city manager, mayor, council, and city clerk will be housed in the new facility. They have also added room on the first floor for future expansion.
According to Feldman the new annex will centralize services for residents doing business now housed in a former bank building which is leased to the city on Babcock St. Over the next 30 years the new building should save the city about $2 million by getting rid of the cost of rent. The city currently pays about $256,000 a year in rent at the current location.
Feldman said "the job is being completed by locals. We made a concerted effort to make sure we used a contractor using local sub-contractors." The business being used for the project is General Contractors of Melbourne.
